Tony Kandah
Founder
Tony Kandah’s lifelong passion for film propelled him from film school to a staff position at Dexter, Dryer and Lai, a major Los Angeles commercial production company. Under the mentorship of founder, Ron Dexter, Kandah spent three years immersed in various aspects of film production, working on national and international commercials for prestigious brands like Cathay Pacific Airlines, Jiffy Lube, and Buick.
Driven by an interest in feature films, Kandah transitioned to PM Entertainment Group, starting as a production assistant on “Ring of Fire II.” He quickly demonstrated his abilities, earning a promotion to Production Manager for four features: “Private Wars,” “Fist of Honor,” “No Escape, No Return,” and “To Be the Best.”
In 1993, Tony Kandah achieved international recognition with “L.A. Wars,” for which he secured funding, co-wrote, co-directed, and produced. Building on this success, he developed and executive produced “Mask of Death” (1996), an action-adventure film starring Lorenzo Lamas, Billy Dee Williams, and Rae Dawn Chong, which premiered on HBO. Demonstrating his versatility, he then sold his screenplay “New Breed” to Cinepix Film Properties (now Lionsgate Films), further honing his writing and sales expertise. Kandah’s diverse portfolio continued to expand with the production and worldwide sale of the sci-fi action-adventure “Starforce” (1999).
Building on his success, Tony Kandah launched Hollywood Wizard in 2004. This boutique sales and production company became a champion for independent filmmakers, representing and licensing their films to distributors worldwide. As a leading sales agent and distributor, Kandah spearheaded Hollywood Wizard’s presence at over 40 international film and TV markets, including Marché du Film, the European Film Market, and the American Film Market, cultivating a network of hundreds of buyers across 50+ territories. This facilitated the sale of over 100 independent features globally. Additionally, through Hollywood Wizard, Kandah served as executive producer, financier, and distributor for several independent films, including “Shira: The Vampire Samurai” (2005), “Horrors of War” (2006), “Ballistica” (2010), and “Always Faithful” (2014).
Tony Kandah’s commitment to industry growth was underscored by his tenure on the Board of Directors of the Independent Film & Television Alliance (IFTA) from 2006 to 2012. During this time, he actively contributed to the organization’s efforts to advance the interests of independent film and television producers globally.
In 2019, Tony Kandah launched FlixHouse®, an ad-supported streaming platform that represents the culmination of his vision for the future of independent content. FlixHouse® offers a diverse selection of independent movies, documentaries, TV shows, and over 100 live channels sourced from a network of international content partners, providing a comprehensive entertainment experience for viewers.
